Poker Night Light

moon.jpg

We know how it is. You've been out all night working the tables. You stumble into the room, tired from too much caffeine, and a bit of adrenaline. As you meander further in, you smack your shin on the coffee table. If only you had a Poker Night Light! Then you would be able to clearly see the old beer bottle in order to doge it. And at under 20 bucks, it sure beats a trip to the ER!

Ring Games: A Guide from Home Poker Tourney

pokerGame.jpg

If you have ever wondered how to host your own ring game, but you were not sure how best to structure it, fear not! The Home Poker Tourney site is here to save the day again.

Whether you have no idea what a ring game is, or whether you are looking for the tips to make your game run smooth, this guide has everything you need. It even tells you what chips to bring:

The poker chips needed to play ring games is somewhat similar to what is needed for tournament play. You can make do with less colors if needed, but three or four different colors is still best. You should still try to issue each player at least 30-50 chips to start with. Many ring games are played with a large amount of one or two colors and a few of a third color. Some games can be played with only two colors.

You can easily play ring games with the same chipset that you purchased for tournament play. The common tournament chip distributions of (200-200-100) or (200-150-100-50) and denominations of 5, 10, 100, 500, and 100 make it easy to adapt for a ring game. You could make your ring game buyin $10 and simply divide your tournament chip values by 100. To issue each player $10 worth of chips you would give out 20 - Red (.05) chips + 16 - Green (.25) chips + 5 - Black (1) chips. If you have a $100 buyin you could give out 20 - Red (.50) + 16 - Green (2.50) + 5 - Black (10) chips. You will also have to make sure that the antes/blind structure that you use is well suited for these chip denominations. The chips needed differs greatly for each variant of poker (7-Card, Hold'em, Draw) and also depends greatly on the ante and blinds structure.

Poker Themed Highball Glasses

highball.jpg

This morning we were contemplating a new set of glasses for our guests at poker night. And we feel that the most useful glass (besides a pint glass and a wine glass) is the highball glass. Its perfect for the more stout drinks that can come alongside a poker game, and because they are so bottom heavy, they are far less likely to spill in an overzealous "all in".

These poker themed highball glasses we found at Amazon are pretty sweet, with the raised suits on the side for easy gripping. They are also available at Target, and apparently, they are part of an entire poker drink ware collection. Very Very nice.

Brass Dealer Button

brassDealerButton.JPG

Sure, you could go with the standard dealer chip, which is basically a plastic chit with the word dealer on it. Or you could even go for an acryllic hocky-puck looking thing. But when they say to go for the brass ring... maybe they meant this Brass Dealer Button.

Its 40mm, and its only seven bucks. We have used this thing in our games, and we like the feel of it. Handy tip: It serves as a rather dangerous missile when hucked at a sleeping player.
It may even replace the cheap plastic scooby doo figurine you've been using. You know who you are!

Light Show LED Color Changing Poker Chip Coasters

Gaudy? Perhaps, but hey.. you can't blame us for finding interesting poker-related gear.

Check out End of The Rainbow Gifts for the images, and a small video of the color show.

Serve more than just a beverage, serve up a light show with these poker chip coasters. The 4 blue, green, yellow, and grey coasters are shaped like poker chips. A money amount, dice, the red heart and diamond, and the black spade and club are on each poker chip coaster. The blue coaster is the $50 chip, the green coaster is the $25 chip, the yellow coaster is the $5 chip, and the grey coaster is the $100 chip. The poker chip coasters are sonic sealed to protect against moisture. Each coaster features an automatic on/off function. When a glass is placed on the coaster, the coaster will light up and the color morphing LED light show begins. The LED lights change a rainbow of colors under the glass, creating a dazzling display.

Poker at Home Essentials: a Humidor

humidor.gif

One of the things about poker is its mystique. When you ask people to consider a home poker game in their minds, they will often imagine a dimly lit room, with folks gathered around a table, usually with cognac glasses of amber colored alcohol, and usually with cigars. The cigar has truly become intertwined with the image of poker, and so it feels fitting to have cigars available for your guests at your next poker game.

Modern times being what they are, you may insist your guests all take a break outside to enjoy a drink and a cigar, but whether they enjoy their cigars inside or out, having cigars come from a proper humidor makes all the difference. And where to find this essential piece of home poker equipment? Why at Cheap Humidors.com, of course.

Whatever your humidor needs, from the starter set, all the way to full on tower cabinets, you will definitely find it here.

So what are you waiting for? Get that humidor, stock it up, and host your next poker party in style!

Phil Hellmuth Achieves 11 World Series of Poker Bracelets

philHellmuthheadshot.jpg

Well, the bad boy of poker has done it. He has won his 11th bracelet on the World Series of Poker events, and thus solidified his position as one of the greatest poker players of all time. And somehow, we think he wont be stopping at 11. Congratulations Mr. Hellmuth.

The Casino City Times has the story:

The self-dubbed WSOP "Record Man" now stands alone atop the poker world.

Phil Hellmuth Jr., who before the series vowed to play well enough to break all of the major WSOP records, humbly accepted number bracelet No. 11 from Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan Monday night after winning Event #15, a $1,500 No Limit Hold'em event. The victory came just one year after he tied Brunson and Chan with ten WSOP titles.

The 1989 WSOP Main Event title was Hellmuth's largest victory in terms or prestige and money, but this last win was the personal mission of a player who wants to be remembered as one of the greatest of all time.

"This is the one I really wanted," Hellmuth said afterward in a post-tournament press conference. "I have so much respect for Doyle and Johnny. To now be at the top of the all-time (WSOP wins) list is really about as good a feeling as I have ever had."
