High-stakes start-ups Fund Business Playing Poker
Wow. I wish I would have thought of that...let's see - fund the blog business by playing online poker? I think I'd have to be a tad better at poker to do that. I think I'll stick to writing about poker chips for now.

Poker champ from Connecticut details heist attempt at Vegas resort
I don't think getting dragged into a room with a ton of chips is a great feeling. Wild story!
Newsday.com: Poker champ from Connecticut details heist attempt at Vegas resort:With $150,000 in poker chips in hand, the reigning World Series of Poker champ Greg "Fossilman" Raymer of Stonington, Conn., knew the two robbers who approached him in the hallway of the Bellagio resort weren't looking to chat. "I knew it was a bad idea to let two criminals shove you into the room," Raymer said during a hearing Friday in Las Vegas. "I'm in fear for my safety, my life, my money, everything." Kevin R. Joy, 35, and Deem Cassim, 31, have been charged with attempted robbery and conspiracy. After hearing Raymer testify, a justice of the peace sent the case to District Court for arraignment.

Props & Poker
I've never understood props until reading this article so fully. Nice stuff.
LOYAL TO THE GAME - Los Angeles CityBeat: It’s high noon on a Thursday, the last week in May, and the parking lot at Commerce Casino is full. Two years ago, vacant spaces would have answered the adjacent Santa Ana Freeway’s steady rumble with a forlorn echo. Not now. Thanks to the global poker boom, business at Commerce – 10 minutes south-east of downtown – has gone through the roof. The packed, mid-week lot radiates an expectancy: a palpable, sweat-inducing, thrill-seekers’ buzz.

World Series of Poker license - Joystiq - www.joystiq.com
World Series of Poker license - Joystiq - www.joystiq.com:
I refuse to categorize Poker as a sport. I absolutely refuse. I don’t care if it is on ESPN. If folkare going to argue about auto racing being asport, and believe me, they do, then to hell with Poker. Sport requires physical endeavour. Lifting chips and cardsisn’t enough. Don’t get me wrong. The poker bug has bitten me hard in a recent months. I’ve even started reading oursister poker site regularly. It still ain’t a sport, though.

Full Tilt Poker's Allen Cunningham Beats Record Field to Claim Third World Series of Poker Title - Yahoo! News:
Cunningham, a 28-year old poker professional who represents online poker site
www.fulltiltpoker.com
, thrilled the crowd with one of the greatest comeback victories in the history of poker. Deep in the tournament, Cunningham was down to 1,200 chips (the average player held 25,000 chips), with the blinds at 300 and 600 chips. Despite barely having enough chips to survive the blinds, Cunningham refused to give up, and mounted a comeback that would end with a World Series of Poker bracelet around his wrist.

Poker Chip History
A nice history on the Poker Chip.
Poker Chip History: Gaming chips have been made from a wide range of materials in an almost infinite variety of styles since the birth of gambling and the need to keep track of winnings. The most common material types used today in the manufacture of modern poker chips are plastic, clay composite, and acrylic and metal composite. Clay chips, the oldest of the bunch, have been manufactured in America since the late 1800s.
