5 Great Movies About Playing Cards

maverick_movie.jpgOK, maybe all these movies aren't ABOUT playing poker and other card games, but they certainly do feature the game heavily. I was going to call this "5 Great Casino Movies" but then I would've felt like I had to put Casino on the list, and I can't call that movie "great" with a clean conscience. Take that, DeNiro - you're nowhere near as cool as James Garner and Jodie Foster, who are apparently playing poker next to a bong in the above poster.

Poker Tells Essentials

poker_tell_essentials.jpgPicking up tells is a huge part of poker, but it's also one of the toughest things to learn. Some say you're either born with the ability to read people, or you're not. This book, Poker Tells Essentials, written by a former FBI agent, claims to be able to illuminate the mysteries of human behavior, including:

- How to observe properly
- How to develop intelligence on your fellow players
- Tells of the face, arms, hands, and torso
- How to best interpret the tells you observe
- What are the most authentic tells
- How to unveil bluffers
- How to prepare for big tournaments
- How the comfort/discomfort paradigm can help you to see tells like never before.

Poker Gift Idea: Card Player Magazine

card_player_magazine.jpgI've been pondering what to get my poker-playing friends for Christmas this year, so I sat back and asked myself - what would I want? I would want a resource that kept me excited about poker, helped me out with strategy, and generally just kept me up on what's going on in the world of poker. The answer? Card Player magazine.

Card Player is the premier poker magazine. It is distributed to most of the poker rooms across the country, championship poker tournament events, and charity poker events. Every issue provides expert strategy and analysis, and addresses important issues within the poker industry.

Can't really go wrong with that - it's the gift that keeps on giving, a subscription's dirt cheap, and that subscription card will fit nicely in a stocking.

Poker T-Shirt Club

club_shirt.jpgThe first rule of Poker T-Shirt Club is you don't talk about Poker T-Shirt Club...well, we're breaking that rule to tell you about the sweet shirts you can get. We rummaged through the site and found some doozies - you probably know a lady who needs a Big Pair shirt, or maybe a Justin Timberlake fan who would kill for the Cry Me a River one. I liked the I Club Donkeys shirt (pictured above), and you'll be able to find all four suits on the site.

Shop your little heart out at Poker T-Shirt Club.
