More Women Getting into Poker Than Ever Before

scaled.Vanessa_Russo_at_poker_table_t318.jpg

Oh - and they're hot. Stroll through the World Series of Poker playing area Tuesday night at the Rio revealed a statement about the current climate of the game. Massive pictures of Annette Obrestad, a 21-year old poker superstar from Norway, on the cover of Bluff Magazine lined the hallways. A final table in the Amazon Room featured Jennifer Harman, a 46-year old Las Vegas poker veteran, battling two other players for the $10,000 buy-in seven card stud hi-low world championship.

Well - it's about time, and well - I'm glad. We need people from all walks of life playing poker, and mars needs more women. :-)

Poker Players May Use Drugs to Stay Sharp and Win at the Table

052806-1.jpg

Really? I think you can play your best game substance free. If you're that tired and the game is too long - get up and leave. There's really no need to juice yourself up to just play poker even if it's your living.

Researchers from Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., found that alongside caffeine, energy drinks and guarana, professional and amateur players all over the world are turning to marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, Valium and a host of other prescription medications to try to gain some advantage at the table.

"The use of these substances could allow poker players to stay awake longer, as well as focus and concentrate better, which would be a competitive advantage, study author Kevin Clauson, an associate professor at NSU's College of Pharmacy, said in a university news release.
