Beyond Tells: Power Poker Psychology
As we gear up for our 2006 run at the World Series of Poker (okay - maybe we're kidding a bit here), we're going to start playing more tournaments and feel we should probably get the low down on "tells" as much as we can.
This book aims to marry "The Psychology of Poker" by Schoonmaker, with Caro's Book of Poker Tells. The overriding theme is that Caro's Tells have to be interpreted in terms of the personality of the person making the tell and the specific circumstance when the suspected tell is being made.

Review: Apache Poker Chips - Paulson Clay Poker Chips For Your Home Poker Game
Apache Poker Chips sent us in two clay poker chip sample sets to review recently. If you don't know that much about Apache Poker Chips' - then you should.
They have the largest selection of casino quality clay poker chips we've seen. Also they specialize in Paulson, ASM, Chipco, & TR King chips. These are high quality chips. We like the fact they have a large selection of looks (Deadwood chips anyone?) and the chips feel right.
These poker chips are made out of as much clay as you can put into a poker chip without making them brittle and we really like the designs. Each chip weighs in at 10 - 10.1 grams (note we got a consistent 10.1 gram weight on the Deadwood chips). This is a proper casino weight. Most people are used to composite chips with metal blanks inside weighing in at 11.5 grams - but we can assure you - 10 grams is the proper weight.
Now we've been playing with these chips over the past few weeks as our "play with chips and do chip tricks stack" while playing online poker and we like them. Much like the Nevada Jacks chips we've been using in much the same way, these feel like the real deal and are good looking chips.
What else can we say? Great design. Good weight. Great quality. We recommend ordering some sample sets and see for yourself. Read their full FAQ for more information.

The Book of Bluffs - How to Bluff at Poker
My good friend Russ has this book. So far - I haven't seen much progress in his bluffs or him sensing my bluffs but the book did get us to discuss what we think various bluffs might mean or how to tell when certain people are bluffing.
Twenty years ago, Mike Caro wrote the book on what to look for in a player's movements, gestures, and facial expressions--their "tells"--to determine if they were bluffing, and it remains one of the bestselling poker books of all time. But what Caro didn't do was teach players how to bluff. Enter Matt Lessinger, a professional poker player and columnist, who in THE BOOK OF BLUFFS shows players how to get their opponents to fold--no matter how strong a hand they've been dealt. Lessinger reveals how, with the correct timing and artistry, bluffing will allow a player to win while holding an inferior hand--the very essence of poker.

Ace on the River: An Advanced Poker Guide
Barry Greenstein is one of those rarer than rare poker players. He gives away a ton of money to charities along with being a soft spoken and very interesting person. We've been looking for something written by him for quite some time and will be picking this up very soon.
The long anticipated 'Ace on the River' is one of the most interesting and unique poker books ever written.
Barry Greenstein has been playing professional poker for about thirty years, and has been a regular in the biggest games in the world for more than a decade, with legends such as Doyle Brunson and Chip Reese. This text was originally intended to be a chapter in the sequel to Brunson's 'Super System,' but when the first draft ran over 100 pages, the project turned into its own book.
The book is primarily targetted toward high-limit professional poker players, which is a very limited audience. Lower and middle limit players will find a lot of the material useful and interesting, but significant portions won't apply to them. Casual home game and beginning players will find a fascinating look into the mind and world of high-stakes poker players, but should definitely look elsewhere for instruction and strategy tips.
