Tian plays poker with his buddies and signs up for tournaments around the city. But when the 20-year-old started getting 40s on his finance quizzes this semester, he started to re-evaluate the time he dedicates to the game. He stopped playing Internet poker during class and cut off the mind-numbing 12-hour online sessions at night.
"It was really distracting me from school — and from sleeping," said Tian, an Augusta native. "I realized I'm in college for a reason, not just to play poker."
Tian is one of thousands of college students who have tapped in to the national poker craze. While the game has been booming among every age group and social set, college campuses have emerged as the epicenter for those wanting to ante up.
