Tian plays poker with his buddies and signs up for tournaments around the city. But when the 20-year-old started getting 40s on his finance quizzes this semester, he started to re-evaluate the time he dedicates to the game. He stopped playing Internet poker during class and cut off the mind-numbing 12-hour online sessions at night.
"It was really distracting me from school — and from sleeping," said Tian, an Augusta native. "I realized I'm in college for a reason, not just to play poker."
Tian is one of thousands of college students who have tapped in to the national poker craze.
